Join the Elgin Historical Society, Nov 27th at 7pm at The St. Thomas-Elgin Public Arts Centre, 301 Talbot St, St Thomas, for a viewing of Gold Diggers of 1933. This pre-code musical from 1933 features some of Hollywood's biggest star of the 1930s, including St. Thomas' Ned Sparks.

Ned Sparks was born in Guelph in 1883, but grew up in St. Thomas, and considered it his hometown. As a boy Ned played baseball with the “Wilson Bridge Bombers” near his home on Wilson Ave. After a brief stint at the University of Toronto Ned found his way to the Klondike, Broadway and eventually, Hollywood. The consummate “sour puss”, Ned was insured by Lloyd's of London for $10,000 in case anyone should ever photograph him smiling. No claim was ever made on the policy.

Gold Diggers of 1933 offers great music, great stars, and unmatched choreography, as well as one of St. Thomas' greatest successes in the movies.
